Working at Noldorath.
Working at Noldorath.
I recommend the usual WWOOF arrangement. This is a minimum of 20 hours of effective work per week in exchange for an interesting and inspiring place to stay, meals and accommodation. You can work longer hours for me, but this is at your option.
No wages, no fees for your accommodation or meals, no rent, no mortgage payments, and no shares payable to stay here.
All who have stayed here have used this arrangement.
I am WWOOF host number QR 214. (Please note : you do not need to join WWOOF to stay at my place.)
When you first arrive here, you can stay in my visitors accommodation that I set up to become a WWOOF host.
If you suit Noldorath, and Noldorath suits you, then your stay here can be extended if you are free.
Then you might like to set up your own food store and food prep here, pay for your own food, and do less work here for me.
Or you might like me to buy, store and prepare your food, and you pay for your food, and do less work.
Or continue as WWOOFer.

Your work here will include –
- Helping me to build holiday huts in the forest
- Raking the perimeter fire break in season
- Mixing mud for rendering
- Other work as required.
This work is fairly heavy : digging and shovelling, dragging and lifting heavy items. It is pioneering work, we will be establishing the basics of civilisation in
virgin forest.
You will need to be fit and reasonably strong.
Succeeding as a “WWOOFer”.
WWOOF Australia now has over 30 years of experience and over 2000 hosts throughout rural Australia. Much of their material on how to succeed as a WWOOFer is quite relevant to my place, with little adaption.
The ideal WWOOFer – - Is a modern day pioneer, learning new skills that will serve themselvesand their community into the future.
- Understands that forest work consists of lots of physical labour, a great form of exercise.
- Finds the clean air, space and quiet of the countryside comfortable and refreshing.
- Reads the ad carefully and learns as much as they can about their Host from their websitebefore their visit to prepare themselves fully.
- Recognises that WWOOF Hosts are human beings who sometimes become fatigued or need personal space and understanding.
- Enjoys their own company and develops a sense of humour when with others.
- Looks, listens, asks questions if they don't understand and takes initiatives.
- Has a can do attitude, enhancing their experiences.
- Is content to work alone occasionally for several hours on one job, appreciating the meditation and rhythm it provides without getting bored.
- Understands that Hosts have house rules. Respecting and complying with these rules and learning from each different cultural experience.
- Realises that a short shower can be enough to get clean, as water is often a precious resource on farms.
- Is aware that internet access in remote areas is sometimes unavailable and is usually VERY expensive and always asks Hosts permission before using it. (Many Hosts rely on satellite internet with very small download plans so WWOOFers who download movies etc. can use a whole month's internet allowance in one download).
- Understands the need to conserve energy and other resources on the Host property, water, gas and electricity can be very expensive in rural areas.
- Tries to identify with the Host's vision and goals and shares their own vision, hopes and interests with others on the Hosts property.
- Tries to seek an open line of communication with their Host, particularly if something is bothering them or they do not understand instructions.
- Will keep their living space clean and tidy, and leave it ready for the next WWOOFer when they leave.
The WWOOF scheme is best suited to young people travelling Australia from overseas. However, Australians can also participate.

Likely Recruits for Noldorath
The Liberal Government has imposed lots of restrictions on people without adequate paid work and thus needing income support from the tax payers’ money. These include Work for the Dole.
Perhaps the bureaucrats have not yet realised that if someone is having real difficulty in getting enough paid work, that they will also have difficulty in finding purposeful Work for the Dole.
These government restrictions make it quite difficult to be at Noldorath and collect income support from tax payers money.
So I expect that likely recruits for Noldorath will include –
- Itinerant workers, especially those doing harvest work
- < >Contract workers who often move home .
- tTravellers
If you are on the dole and would like to be at places like Noldorath, then this could be a direction for you.
Paid Work Opportunities in this Region.
For most people, these are fairly limited in a rural location, especially for newcomers who are not known to the employers as being locals. What’s more, “local” can mean living here all your life.
But Gin Gin is not worse than other county areas.
If you have your own vehicle, you might get work in the many food places here; Gin Gin is the biggest meal stopping place on the Bruce Hwy for hundreds of kilometres. There is also the hospital and several schools, and some citrus growers here.
If not, then Bundaberg is 75 km away, and it has 3 big backpackers that provide casual work for the many vegie and fruit growers near Bundaberg. Each has a fleet of mini buses to carry the backpackers to work early each morning. A big backpackers has also been approved by Council to be built here, to supply labour to Gin Gin growers.
